The Salford Royal Hospital in Greater Manchester is undergoing a £136 million major refurbishment and expansion. The project is being undertaken through a joint venture between Balfour Beatty Construction and Balfour Beatty Engineering Services. Munnelly Support Services are providing the Logistics Services for this prestigious project. In order to manage the delivery points, hoist and cranes, and to provide an up-to-date overview of the days activity to all staff, Munnellys have chosen Zone Manager. The standard configuration has allowed them to install a large display screen in the canteen which continuously shows a live view of all bookings for the coming few days.
Environmental issues are becoming ever more important in the construction industry. By using Zone Manager Munnellys are able to keep track on a variety of environmentally important factors such as the distances travelled to site by suppliers and the size of the load. By reviewing these it is possible to identify where for example, fewer journeys could be made using fuller vehicles thereby reducing total CO2 emissions. Amongst other issues being addressed is the unnecessary use of shrink-wrap on pallets. Zone Manager reports provide totals of these by week or month, allowing their use to be questioned with suppliers. Where practicable their use can then be reduced.
